I did not intend that last post just for the manager.

Bryan:

I can't really advise you what to invest in, as I'm not an investment advisor. However, I hear good things about Vanguard from many people and also from what I read, especially the fact that their expenses are among the lowest in the industry.

The main things to look at when choosing a fund are the reverse of what most people look at.

Most people look at past performance first. You should probably look at that last.

Probably the most important things to look for are:

Costs : Front- and back-end loads, expense ratios. Keep these as low as possible. You can have a fund with great performance, but if the costs are high, it'll negate that performance in the long run.

Management: Who is/are the managers and what is their individual long-term performance like? Managers move around and some (astute) people follow them, investing in whatever fund or funds that particular manager is managing at present.

Turnover: are they just churning stocks in and out, or do they hold for a long period?

I don't know about investing bi-monthly; it seems to me that it would be better to put the money aside bi-monthly and invest it once a month.

Morningstar is pretty good for screening different types of funds according to asset allocation and risk.

Hope this helps. Others may have suggestions.
